Welcome back! The previous "episodes" were 2 live videos (the first one cut out, frustratingly) in which I resawed an 8"-wide, 30 1/4" long piece of black walnut by hand... Did I mention I did it live? So there is proof!
Now in part 9, I am installing the last of the main structural rails. This is a separate, though much shorter video, because I wanted to show how I use my previously installed rails to move forward. Because I am more concerned about everything being uniform, rather than adhering to specific measurements, I use the rails that are already in place to mark where I will put the back support rails. The bottom one will be hidden by the dust skirt. The top one will probably never be seen either, so I didn't spend much time planing them. You can even see they have marks from the mill on them.
Because I didn't try to get them too square, I sawed and chiseled the tenons rather than using my Stanley 78. The 78 replicates the "squareness" or transfers mistakes that are out of square, from the end of the board that you are using to reference off of, to the tenon shoulder itself. So, I made sure my boards' edges were flat and straight, and just referenced off them.
I kept the video short to show the way I do things rather than the mortising process, which I covered in depth in episode 8.
