Plastic release lever snaps under pressure
The Fault
The original release lever is a weak design and the bar where the strap attaches will often snap. This will make it extremely difficult to open & close the roll top.
Direct replacements will have the same issue as they are designed in the same way, no reinforcement behind the plastic and a weak, fixed design.
Other replacement designs are sold as a fixed & complete unit with the strap, so you cannot interchange with the original strap.
The Solution
This is the X8R improved design release lever. It is made from anodised aluminium which is far stronger than the original plastic design. It has a removable strap attachment so you can replace the strap for an alternative colour or the strap frays.
The X8R kit comes with a replacement pull strap and black carabiner clip. It also comes with fitting hardware; removable strap pin, pivot bush and flange screw. The pin has no protruding thread, so the pull strap will not fray where it attaches to the release lever. The pin comes with threadlock applied, to ensure a secure fit.
