This video contains excerpts from a FLOW-3D World Users Conference presentation by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) from Queensland, Australia. DTMR provided two examples of how FLOW-3D HYDRO is helping them minimize risk and improve accuracy of bridge hydraulic assessments.
In the first part of the presentation, DTMR created a FLOW-3D HYDRO model for an existing bridge crossing and compared it to observed flood levels. Then, a simplified 2D slice model was created to analyze a range of hydraulic conditions to develop improved form loss coefficients that could be used in larger-scale flood modeling assessments.
The second part of the video highlights how FLOW-3D HYDRO was used to support one of DTMR's bridge design projects and optimize the bridge substructure layout. The modeling analyzed various substructure options to refine the bridge design to minimize hydraulic losses caused by the new bridge's design.
