Brave New World chapter 2 analysis: conditioning, sleep learning & class consciousness
In my analysis of the second chapter of Brave New World by Aldous Huxley I discuss the concepts introduced in chapter 2 of Brave New World. Those include conditioning of Delta babies in order to instill aversion towards books and flowers. I talk about why the particular choice of books and flowers playing part in supressing individualism by the World State and discuss it in the context of the Brave New World society and the social hierarchy consisting of Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta and Epsilon individuals. I also discuss the connection between nature, technology and individualism in context of industrialisation and digitalisation of society.
I briefly talk about the significance of Henry Ford in the society of Brave New World and how the concept of parents and family has been largely eradicated. I also compare it to the anti-family rhetoric present in communism as well as the growing phenomenon of children being raised by the state, school and social media.
I also touch upon the concept of hypnopædia - sleep learning. While this concept played important role in developing the predestining and conditioning methods present in Brave New World, in real life it has been largely debunked.
Finally, I talk about the importance of education in the world of Brave New World and the role it plays in conditioning the society - specifically class consciosness and its role in accepting one's place in the social hierarchy in order to create stability, identity and community.
My name is Alexander L and I started this channel focusing on my experience with transition and detransition. I have featured guests on this channel such as Ritchie Herron and Buck Angel. With time I have moved on to make content focused on philosophy, politics, social issues, mental health, video games and films.
