Located near the border of Riverside and Orange Counties, lies the Santa Ana Canyon. Named after the Santa Ana River, the canyon provides a through passage for the 91 Freeway, as well as the BNSF San Bernardino Subdivision between Los Angeles, Orange County and Riverside. This canyon also provides some scenic vantage points for BNSF, Metrolink, and Amtrak's Southwest Chief trains as they make their way through.
In this video, I focused on the Horseshoe Curve part of the canyon. This sweeping curve, also known as the "Esperanza" area of the line, has an elevated vantage point along a trail provides excellent views of the curve. I caught the usual BNSF and Metrolink action on these particular times, however a late running Amtrak Southwest Chief makes an appearance, with a rare BNSF GP60 still sporting the Santa Fe bonnet paint scheme.
