Banana plugs offer a convenient connection for 5-way binding posts. We like them because they make connecting and disconnecting speakers easy, and because they provide a good signal connection between your amp and speakers. But a lot of people get flummoxed when they find the end of the binding post blocked at first.

Manufacturers ship their amps/receivers/speakers with plastic caps fitted into the end of the binding post to ensure nothing gets crammed in there during manufacturing and shipping. To make your banana plug connection, all you have to do is remove these caps any way you can: pry them out with a fingernail, use a pocket knife or small flat-blade screwdriver...any way you can, just pry them out gently.
