Brian Carn is now claiming that he did not know he owed taxes—but does that explanation really make sense?

In this video, we examine Brian Carn’s latest comments about his tax situation and compare them with the seriousness of the allegations and legal consequences surrounding his case. According to Carn, he was unaware that he had unpaid tax obligations. But when someone has a large ministry, multiple sources of income, financial professionals, and years of tax filings, many people are understandably questioning how he could have had no knowledge of the problem.
This is not about celebrating anyone’s downfall or pretending that Christians never make financial mistakes. People can misunderstand tax laws, receive bad advice, or fail to properly oversee their finances. However, spiritual leaders should also be honest, transparent, accountable, and willing to accept responsibility when something goes wrong.
Instead of focusing only on whether Brian Carn knew every detail, we also need to ask bigger questions:
Was there proper financial accountability in the ministry?
Who was responsible for handling the taxes?
Were warnings or notices ignored?
Is Brian Carn taking responsibility, or is he shifting blame?
Why do some church leaders preach financial principles to others while appearing to lack accountability in their own finances?
Pastors and prophets often tell their followers to obey God, pay their bills, give offerings, sow seeds, and practice financial discipline. Therefore, it is reasonable for the public—and especially church members—to expect those same leaders to handle their own finances responsibly.
The Bible gives strong warnings concerning leadership, honesty, money, and accountability. First Timothy 3 teaches that church leaders must be above reproach. Luke 16:10 says that whoever is faithful in very little will also be faithful in much. Romans 13 also teaches that governing authorities and taxes should be taken seriously.
This situation should remind Christians that charisma, prophecy, popularity, and large crowds are not substitutes for character and accountability. A minister can be gifted, entertaining, influential, and still need correction. No pastor should be treated as though he is above questions simply because people believe he is anointed.
We will listen carefully to Brian Carn’s own words, examine the explanation he is giving, and discuss whether it adequately addresses the concerns surrounding the case. The goal is not to exaggerate the facts, but to encourage biblical discernment and responsible leadership.
