The fifth day of the Hindu religious holiday known as Tihar is devoted to Bhai Tihar, the ceremony where brothers and sisters paint tikas on one another's foreheads with powdered pigments prior to exchanging gifts. It is a great honor to be invited to this ceremony, and acceptance means becoming an honorary sister or brother for life. This particular brother/sister tika ceremony was held in Pokhara, Nepal at the home of my Yoga guru, Narayan Prasad Dhakal, along with his sister Laxmi, his son Pranab, and his two daughters, Annapurna and Himrekha. Narayan's wife, Saraswoti, celebrated the day at her brother's home.
