I was impressed with the S1 Maglev line in Beijing, China when I rode it recently. The Mentougou area is still building up at a feverish pace. The biggest change since the last time I was there is that it is now directly connected to a subway line, which is Line 6. There is still much work to be done to connect to Line 1. Also, last time I was there, the trains drove at a snail's pace over any switches, even if it it was in the straight position, and not turning out. This was only a couple months after opening to the public. Now, the speed over the turnouts (switches) is much faster.

I look forward to seeing future urban maglev systems being built in China and elsewhere. To date, my favorite urban maglev system is the Linimo in Nagoya, Japan.

This train runs from Jin'anqiao Station to Shichang station, crossing over the stunning Yongding River Bridge. Eventually the Pingguoyuan Station will open on the maglev.
