How can diversity make societies stronger instead of weaker? What would change if we understood diversity not as tolerance, but as a gift? What is required to bring about this transformation?
In his Letter to the Romans, the Apostle Paul urges his readers “Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of the mind, so that you may discern what is the will of God” (12:2). With this foundation, he asserts we can experience new life as one body in Christ. But this divine body does not call for conformity or uniformity. Rather, Paul recognizes that we all have been given “gifts that differ by grace.”
This scripture is one of our earliest and most eloquent assertions of the Enduring Principle of Unity in Diversity. Rather than understanding diversity as a weakness and potential cause for division, God has blessed us with complementary diversity to make the whole greater than the sum of its parts.
John Hamer and Leandro Palacios invite you to “Be Transformed” as they explore this theme from ancient and Medieval sites in the city of Naples. Leandro and Michael Karpowicz’s month-long series of Neapolitan musical ministry continues with their renditions of “Maria! Mari!” and “Marechiare.”

This year we are focusing on witnesses of God’s revelation beyond the four canonical gospels, including the letters of Paul, Hebrews, and the letters attributed to James, Peter, Jude, and John. We will also read Acts, Revelation, and some important early Christian texts that were not included in the canon: the Didache (or Teachings of the Twelve Apostles), the sayings Gospel of Thomas, and the Gospel of Mary (Magdalene).
