This musical truffle was composed in 1920, apparently inspired by a trip to Majorca, in the company of Bax's brother and Holst, no less. This was a minor hit for Bax, which he later orchestrated. Heifitz made an effective transcription for violin and piano (which I've played). The compositional style may appear lacking in formal discipline, but Bax knew what he was doing, and creates a distinctive character and atmosphere, uniquely his own.
Created, edited and mastered in Digital Performer 5.13 (MOTU), using Ivory (Synthogy) sound banks. Score is in the public domain, available at imslp.org
I confess to being a Bax fanatic...
