Baldur's Gate 3: How to Escape the Peculiar Lamp and Defeat Yafeu the Djinni?

Hey everyone! In today’s video, we’re diving into a tricky encounter inside Lorroakan’s Tower in Baldur’s Gate 3, where you’ll come face to face with Yafeu, the djinni trapped inside the Peculiar Lamp. If you’re not careful, this encounter can leave your party in a real mess, but don’t worry—I’m going to walk you through it step by step.

First, you’ll need to head into the city of Baldur’s Gate and visit Sorcerous Sundries. Inside, there’s a vault that hides all kinds of riches, but among them is a peculiar dark lamp. The chamber where you’ll find it is hidden behind an illusion. Don’t be fooled by the wall—just walk right through it. Beyond the illusory wall, you’ll see the Peculiar Lamp sitting on a pedestal.

Now, touching the lamp will trigger a cutscene, and this is where things can go wrong. If you touch it, Yafeu the djinni will appear, laugh at your misfortune, and swap places with you, trapping you inside the lamp while he’s freed. At this point, your party will be faced with a choice: they can let Yafeu go, or they can challenge him to a fight.

If you get trapped inside the lamp, don’t panic. Inside the chamber, you’ll find a scroll of Summon Quasit in one of the chests. Summoning the Quasit will save you because the lamp can only trap one creature at a time. Once you summon the Quasit, it will take your place, and you’ll be freed from the lamp. It's a useful trick, though it means the Quasit will be trapped inside permanently.

For those of you who prefer a more direct approach, you can always challenge Yafeu head-on. Tell him that you don’t serve any master, and he’ll take it as a trick to put him back in the lamp, which will lead to a battle. Be warned, though—defeating Yafeu doesn’t give you any special rewards, and it won’t help free any party members trapped inside the lamp.

Finally, if you’re feeling particularly ruthless and not attached to any of your hirelings, you can send them into the lamp in your place. They’ll be trapped, but you can always dismiss them later with Withers at camp if needed.

So, there you have it! Whether you’re trying to escape the Peculiar Lamp or just want to see what treasures the vault holds, Yafeu’s encounter offers a variety of options. Just remember, using the Quasit summon is your best bet to avoid being trapped.
