Today we’ll be taking a look at Detent Hinges. These hinges are great for holding doors open at different angles. They are easy to install, available in both fractional and metric, and compatible across a wide range of profile series. Now one thing to keep in mind when using a detent hinge, is that your panel is going to need a drill through service. Now you’re also going to need a bolt assembly too. More information on 80/20’s machining services and recommended bolt assemblies can be found in the 80/20 product catalog. Alright, so when it comes to installing our detent hinge. We’re going to start with the stopper. We’re going to move it into position. Grab our wrench, and tighten that down. That’s going to help hold our panel into place while we are installing it. So we’ll go ahead and set that off to the side again. Now we’re going to work on putting the hinge on the panel itself. We got one bolt in there, so we’ll take one more bolt and finish it off. Grab our washer, and out hex nut. We’ll hand tighten all that down. We’ll grab our wrenches. And we’ll tighten that the rest of the way down. Now once we’re done with that side. We’ll preload the T-slot side with one more bolt, and one more T-nut. Now once we have that done, we’re ready to put it on our frame. So we’ll grab our frame and lay it flat here. We’ll get our hinge lined up and just slide the T-nuts into the open T-slot. We’ll move that into position. We’ll that flat and that stopper will hold that into place for us while we tighten that down. Now one last option you’ll want to consider is cover caps. Today we are going to take a look at the central connector. This fastening method is a great choice for a strong connection with adjustability. Its available in fractional, metric, and compatible across a wide range of profile series. Now the central connector comes in three parts. You have the bolt, the barrel nut, and the spring. Now one thing youll want to keep in mind when using the central connector, is one of your bars is going to need machined with a counterbore service, and a hole drilled in the center cavity. More information on central connector machining services can be found in the 80/20 product catalog. Now when it comes to installing the central connector, youree going to start with your barrel and place it into the counterbore service, making sure the hole faces out towards the end of the profile. Next well take our bolt, place the spring over it. From there well take our bolt and place it in the center cavity with the indent facing up towards the barrel. Well line it up, and slightly engage it with our wrench. From there well take the other bar, and slide the connector in. Find our desired location, and tighten down with our wrench. Now the great thing about the central connector, is its adjustability. If you need a new location on the bar, simply loosen up the central connector, find your new location on the bar, and tighten down firmly again. Today were going to take a look at the flat plates. 80/20s flat plates are not only easy to install, but also require no machining. They come in fractional, metric, and are available across a wide range of profile series. When using it, you have a choice. A flat plate can be used for a stand-alone fastening method, or to reinforce another fastening method. Here you can see a small sample of the many flat plates that 80/20 offers. As you can see, the plates come in a wide variety of shapes, and sizes, making it one of the more versatile fastening methods 80/20 offers. Now one thing youll want to keep in mind when using the flat plate is, youll need bolt assemblies to install it. Recommended bolt assemblies for all flat plates, can be found in the 80/20 product catalog. Now when it comes to installing the flat plate, the first thing youll want to do is preload your hardware. Preloading not only makes it easier to install your flat plate, but also saves time during assembly. To save additional time and money, youll want to look for opportunities where you can substitute out a single T-nut, for double and triple T-nuts, like in this example. Now to get started, well take our plate with the preloaded hardware on it, and finish it up by putting the last bolt in it. Well take our T-nut and put it on. Now, youll want to make sure when using the T-nut, you have the pilot hole facing downwards. Well get that on there. At this point were ready for our bars. Well slide the flat plate on. Well take our other bar, get it on there. Once we have all that on there, well take our wrench and tighten down each bolt. Once we have that tightened, we have a strong, secure connection.
