Toba Batak is an Austronesian language spoken by about 1,610,000 people in North Sumatra, Indonesia, particularly around Lake Toba. It is part of the Batak language group. Historically, Toba Batak was written in the Batak script, but now the Latin script is predominantly used. The term "Toba Batak" refers both to the language and to the people who speak it.
