The Aswan Dam in Aswan, Egypt is one of the largest embankment dams in the world, and the Lake Nasser Reservoir it created is one of the world's largest man-made reservoirs. The Aswan High Dam was built from 1960-1970, financed mainly by the Soviet Union. This is why you will also see the large Soviet-Egyptian Friendship Monument, also known as The Lotus Tower.
