Our West Senior Pastor, Seth Swindall, begins week one of our new teaching series, The Life of Abraham.
In the call of Abraham, we see an invitation to leave what’s familiar, let go of what’s shaped us, and trust God enough to step into the unknown, even when we can’t see where we’re going. While the world tells us to architect our own future, make a name for ourselves, and chase what we can see, God calls us to something different: to fix our eyes on Him, take the next step in obedience, and trust that He knows the way.
In this message, Pastor Seth explores the following Scriptures:
Genesis 12:1-7 NLT
The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” So Abram departed as the Lord had instructed, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. 5 He took his wife, Sarai, his nephew Lot, and all his wealth—his livestock and all the people he had taken into his household at Haran—and headed for the land of Canaan. When they arrived in Canaan, Abram traveled through the land as far as Shechem. There he set up camp beside the oak of Moreh. At that time, the area was inhabited by Canaanites. Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to your descendants.” And Abram built an altar there and dedicated it to the Lord, who had appeared to him.
Genesis 11:1-4 NLT
At one time all the people of the world spoke the same language and used the same words. As the people migrated to the east, they found a plain in the land of Babylonia and settled there. They began saying to each other, “Let’s make bricks and harden them with fire.” (In this region bricks were used instead of stone, and tar was used for mortar.) Then they said, “Come, let’s build a great city for ourselves with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep us from being scattered all over the world.”
Hebrews 11:8 & 10 NET
By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place he would later receive as an inheritance, and he went out without understanding where he was going.
For he was looking forward to the city with firm foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
Proverbs 29:18 NASB
Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained, but happy is one who keeps the Law.
2 Chronicles 20:12 NIV
We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.
