In this part of the interview Gary Hamel explains how starting with people's world view, leads into the value and principle that they will lead with. What is your optimizing goal as an organization?
Bureaucracy is just a technology and it made sense when:
-Most employees were very poorly educated
-Information was difficult and expensive to move
-Competitive advantage was primarily around scale and repeatability
-Where change was gradual
Creating a confederation of owners. People who have the two things that owners have:
1: Real decision rights with local P&Ls.
2: A financial upside. That’s what it means to be a business owner. That’s what it means to be an entrepreneur. It requires the freedom to make decisions.
