Metabolic Mind | Are GLP1s Ozempic and Wegovy Safe in Psychiatry? @metabolicmind | Uploaded October 2023 | Updated October 2024, 38 minutes ago.
Wegovy, Ozempic, and other GLP1 weight loss drugs are increasingly being used for patients with psychiatric diagnoses like bipolar disorder, depression, or schizophrenia. However, there are safety concerns, with the potential for an increase in suicidal thoughts. Fortunately, other alternatives exist for combatting medication-induced weight gain, such as ketogenic therapy, which has also been shown to treat the underlying psychiatric condition. And yet, some have reported improved anxiety or depression after taking these medications. How do we decide if these medications are safe for people with a psychiatric diagnosis?
