What a pleasure to meet this station watch commander and crew by chance at Cushendall - wrapping up the filming of fire attendances over the last few seasons. A very friendly group indeed. There's is so much local history at this station. It's a real community story and every one of these local firefighters are part of it.
You will see crews here from other stations like Ballycastle and Carnlough. There is a focus here on gorse fires, which play a sizeable challenge for local, rural crews in N Ireland. They are often spread over tens of acres, requiring many crews and sometimes lasting days. This last year, those in the Mournes and mountains overlooking Belfast featured on local news.
