Annual Aircraft Inspection | Cessna 172 Maintenance, Repairs & First Flight of the Season
It’s that time of year again — the annual aircraft inspection for Mike Victor Uniform. In this episode, I take you inside the hangar to show what really goes into preparing a Cessna 172 for its yearly inspection, from stripping the interior to removing inspection panels and tackling hands-on maintenance.
With Chris away, it’s all on me to handle the aircraft maintenance grunt work — pulling panels, checking components, and getting everything ready for inspection. We dig into real-world aviation tasks like:
Inspecting control cables, rods, and wiring
Looking for cracks, corrosion, and wear
Replacing worn parts (including flap bearings and cowling repairs)
Understanding how older aircraft (1960s era) were built and maintained
The challenge of working “blind” inside tight aircraft spaces
You’ll also see the realities of aircraft ownership — where experience matters, mistakes happen, and sometimes you just have to figure it out as you go.
Once the inspection is complete (and thankfully uneventful!), it’s time to get back in the air. I take off for a VFR flight from Edenvale to Oshawa, sharing real cockpit audio, ATC communications, and a slightly “creative” landing thanks to nearby traffic.
