Just an actual professional anime and game translator, weighing in on the literal vs localized subs debate. I used to love literal translations, so I understand where the pro-literal side is coming from, but now, I practice and am an advocate of localized anime subs. I don’t know the exact numbers, but the anime fan community today seems a lot more open to localized subs than they were back when I first became an otaku in the late-90’s. But there are still many otaku out there who think literal translations are the way to go and I hope to enlighten a few with this video-essay.
