Decided to interrupt the backlog of 2021 videos with this.
Chris and I went out to Washington Township near Edinboro to catch Erie County's quarterly test. We were skeptical as to whether or not this would sound, but were pleasantly surprised when this siren sounded off right at 12:30, and was analog as well.
These two WPS-3000s came from University Park, Texas, and were purchased by Atlanic Township in neighboring Crawford County somewhere between 2005 and 2007. From around 2007 to 2014-ish, they were used there, until they were dismantled and then given to Washington Township in Erie County, and were installed here. One is located behind the Walmart adjacent to I-79, and this one is located on Crane Rd. next to a tree farm.
Now you're probably wondering how we figured out these came from Texas. Well, we found a barcode on the control cabinet of the one at the Walmart and noted it said "University Park Fire Department" on it. From there we looked within Pennsylvania, and finding no city by the name of University Park in the state, went from there. We then looked across the country, and via process of elimination, found a University Park in Texas that had Whelen 3000s pictured on The Siren Archive that were replaced around roughly the same time that Atlantic Twp. got theirs. We also noted on the barcode what appeared to be a 7-digit phone number, and upon looking it up on Google, found it matched the phone number for the University Park, TX city hall.
Erie County's Department of Public Safety tests the select disaster warning/fire sirens on the county's system on the 15th of the month quarterly (January, April, July, October). The county tests in zones, meaning different groups of sirens are tested at different times. The order is as follows:
12:00 PM - City of Corry
12:15 PM - Union City
12:30 PM - West County, Edinboro, and McKean (reportedly including the University)
12:45 PM - Mill Village
1:00 PM - East County
