Amtrak's Piedmont is one of the more unique Amtrak trains around, and runs between Raleigh and Charlotte, North Carolina. Jointly operated by Amtrak and the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), the Piedmont uses a fleet of EMD F59PH and F59PHI locomotives, and passenger cars dating back to the 1950's and 1960's. Seeing this train service has always been on my list, and I was able to make a handful of trips to North Carolina over the past few years, seeing Piedmont and other trains around North Carolina.
In this video, we'll follow the Norfolk Southern line from Raleigh, to Charlotte, and see various Amtrak Piedmont, Carolinian, and Norfolk Southern freight trains. Three different subdivisions/districts are along this line, being the Charlotte, Danville, and Raleigh Districts.
