This year we celebrate the milestone of 150 years since Ellen Swallow Richards (MIT’s first alumna) graduated from MIT. AMITA helped to fund the Ellen Swallow Richards Professorship to increase the number of tenured women faculty at MIT. To commemorate the milestone, we will have a series of women who have held this chair give presentations over the coming year. This is the first such presentation from Sara Seager, a professor in Physics, Aero and Astro, and Planetary Science, former Ellen Swallow Richards Professor and current holder of the Class of 1941 Professorship. For thousands of years, inspired by the star-filled dark night sky, people have wondered what lies beyond Earth. Today, the search for signs of life is a key factor in modern-day planetary exploration. Professor Sara Seager will share the latest advances in the revolutionary fields of exoplanets and astrobiology. Guaranteed to be a fascinating presentation.
