Here now is a great example of American strength through steam: the 4-8-2 Mountain locomotives. I personally associate this wheel notation with freight trains but, as is shown within this compilation, they were equally useful with passenger services making these engines one of the finest mixed-traffic engines in the country. We have examples from the New York Central, Pennsylvania Railroad, Southern Pacific, Rutland Railroad, Santa Fe and a few examples from New England. Hope you enjoy!
