Here is a compilation of one of Britain's finest steam locomotives: the Liverpool and Manchester Railway's No.57 Lion. Based upon Robert Stephenson designs and built by Todd, Kitson & Laird in 1838, this 0-4-2 outside frame tender engine was capable of speeds up to 40 mph and could haul a collective 200 tons. Compared to the primary designer from 1829 from Rocket and Planet, Lion was the most up-to-date engine of her time and the pride of the LMR. Today, not only does she exist as the forerunner of the London Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) but she is known throughout the world as the namesake film star of "The Titfield Thunderbolt" (1953), of which certain scenes are displayed here in this compilation. Hope you enjoy!
