One person's trash is another person's treasure, the saying goes. People around the UK are reducing, reusing and recycling all sorts of materials to make better use of the planet's resources and reduce our carbon footprint.

Sustainable seaweed is being turned into vegan leather, old CDs are being turned into luxury goods like jewellery and furniture.

We've supported projects that make insulation from waste and fungi, and design gadgets to reduce the amount of microplastics our washing machines pump into the water system.

Watch the video for an exciting journey through some of these projects, which are led by scientists, engineers and ordinary people with imagination and an innovative mindset.
