UKRI Stories | Helping people develop careers in advanced therapies through apprenticeships @UKResearchandInnovation | Uploaded February 2022 | Updated October 2024, 3 hours ago.
Cell and gene therapies form an exciting, emerging category of medicines that has the potential to offer life-changing treatments for severe diseases. To meet the growing demand for people who can develop, manufacture and deliver these innovative therapies, UKRI tasked the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult to establish the Advanced Therapies Apprenticeship Community (ATAC) in 2018.
It is the first apprenticeship programme designed specifically to nurture new talent in this sector. A year ago, when these interviews were recorded, 100 apprentices had been employed. It has now helped to place over 200 apprentices in jobs that will help develop their careers - from manufacturing operatives to technical experts and researchers.
In this video, we asked ATAC apprentices their reasons for joining the programme and the difference it's made to them.
