ALBERT HAYNESWORTH STOMPS ON ANDRE GURODE FACE 😳
Albert Haynesworth's infamous stomping incident occurred on October 1, 2006, during a game between the Tennessee Titans and the Dallas Cowboys. It remains one of the most notorious examples of on-field misconduct in NFL history.
Early in the third quarter, Cowboys running back Julius Jones scored a 5-yard touchdown run to put Dallas up 20-6. At the end of the play, Dallas center Andre Gurode fell to the ground, and his helmet came off. While Gurode was lying on the turf completely unprotected, Haynesworth stood over him and used his cleats to stomp directly on Gurode's exposed head and face. His first stomp narrowly missed, but the second connected forcefully.
Referee Jerome Boger immediately flagged Haynesworth for a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Haynesworth responded by ripping off his own helmet and slamming it onto the turf, earning a second 15-yard flag and an immediate ejection from the game. Gurode suffered severe lacerations across his forehead and near his eye. He required 30 stitches to close the wounds and suffered from blurred vision and headaches. He was fortunate to escape permanent eye or brain damage.
The NFL suspended Haynesworth for five games without pay. At the time, this was the longest suspension ever handed down by the NFL for a single on-field behavioral incident. The suspension, combined with lost team bonuses, cost Haynesworth roughly $1.1 million. Gurode and his family actively considered pressing criminal assault charges but ultimately decided against it.
