Here’s another wonderful receiver from the 1980s, technology taken to the excess. It shows everything on the vacuum fluorescent display screen. The speakers selected, bass, treble, volume level, tape connection input pass throughs, power level meters — and more!
This unit has an STK amp output chip, quite dreaded as they can go bad and stop working at any time. And to add insult to injury, it has an STK preamp chip! Two places to fail!
I reapplied thermal paste to the outputs and also added heat sinks to the preamp STK, which just runs out in the open inside and is quite hot.
This is an excellent example of the 1980s during its peak.
70 W is quite powerful for this type of receiver.
Sound quality is outstanding. I have nothing against these STK packs but I’ve had my share of issues with various receivers.
I’m respectfully pushing it tonight and keeping it cool with that computer fan, which I run on each and every receiver regardless of condition.
