JVC RX–905V from 1991. The first and only receiver in my collection to stop working out of nowhere and I normally don’t work on things this “new” due to the computerized circuit and miniaturization of components.
It’s now working perfect after replacing 2 zener diodes and around 10 capacitors (two values) all of which were from the same production line/era/brand.
Warning, this is a 30 minute video of the repair journey, it starts off with a demo of the receiver working tonight, which will be my workhorse system this weekend.
I seriously thought this was gonna be something I would have to part out or just sell to someone else to work on.
It’s very possible it might outlive me now, and while my troubleshooting order of operations may be off, the end result had me replacing “hidden” capacitors I never would have seen had it not been torn apart. I never would’ve looked for had I simply just repaired the power supply, which was right in front of me.
Don’t ever give up on your troubleshooting and trying to fix something if you are a hobbiest and like to tinker.
