US Missile Defense Agency video showing the Jan. 10, 2009 test firing by the Boeing YAL-1 Airborne Laser (ABL) against an instrumented target missile, called MARTI, off the coast of central California. This was not a lethal firing test, which is planned for later this year. The instrumented target instead collected data on the performance of the high-energy laser. The video shows the ABL, a modified 747-400, on the right firing its megawat-class laser at the target flying from lower left to upper right. The beam is visible, so presumably this is an infrared image.
