This video explains in detail how to do Iriminage, which is a basic technique in Aikido meaning entering throw.
It is shown here from Shomenuchi, which can be translated as front head strike. It is important to understand that the Nage (thrower) is the one that initiates the technique with the strike. The Uke (receiver) defends by by raising their arm and the technique it executed from this point. The same technique can be done from other attacks and positions.
There are several variations of Iriminage and different styles demonstrate it many other ways. The way shown here is the basic form done in Iwama Ryu (Iwama Style). It is shown from Ura which is attacking the centreline from the back, using Tenkan (turning) movement. It also be done from Omote which is front on.
The aim of the technique like most of Aikido is to keep control of your Uke whilst moving from your centre.
