Agfa Synchro Box REVIEW and SHOOT - early 1950s vintage box camera taking HUGE 6x9 frames @the120ist

A fairly in depth review of the surprisingly good Agfa Synchro Box. Made by Agfa Camerawerk AG in Munich between 1951-1957, this camera was aimed at the consumer market, definitely for non-professional use!

After my poor performance with the Ferrania Eura, where I didn't really give the camera a chance and just moaned about it, I decided to take on another camera with seriously limited image control capabilities. This one doesn't even have a focus ring! Bring it on. I think I did a better job this time! Let me know what you think.

Interestingly, the one thing you can't do with this camera, is take close up portraits like the one shown in the advert!!

I agreed, I use flash all the time and I love it, so they sent me this Z2Pro-S. First impressions - its a flash. How different can it really be? It creates a short pop of light in time with the shutter. Theyve kinda been the same for about 50 years. But lets give it a chance! So it has this oh so fashionable round head, they all seem to be doing that now. Does it make all the difference? Does it change the whole flash experience? No. But it probably helps a bit, otherwise why would they do it? Some truly awesome things about this flash - rechargeable battery. I love this. I absolutely dont want to think about all the alkaline cells Ive chomped through over the years in my other flashes. Its a lot. Maybe into the thousands. So this is awesome. Power - its pretty good. I think in the vid I rounded it up to 80w/s, whereas its actually stated in the literature as 76w/s... still pretty good for a camera top flash. Not the most powerful, but its a good punchy pop. Battery life is impressive - more than 500 full power pops on a single charge! How about that? Amazing. User interface is pretty good actually. Really easy to use, easy to find everything. All in all, its great. And of course, because its Neewer, its a fraction of the cost of similar branded products. Whats not to like??? Drop me a comment, let me know what you think! And just to follow up on the problems I had at the beginning - definitely not an issue with the flash, entirely a problem with the x sync port on the macro bellows. I tested it with lots of other stuff and had no issues.$
