Airing in late August 1984 on a New York City-area station, this commercial for Acme Supermarkets touted an offer for "the American dream"--in this case meaning a budget set of the Funk & Wagnalls New Encyclopedia, originally published in 1971. The second edition of their Standard Desk Dictionary (from 1974) could also be had on the cheap. Acme is still around, but the final printing of the encyclopedia would come in 1997.
