Acme Feed & Seed, one of Lower Broadway’s most recognizable buildings and a fixture in countless Nashville photographs, has become a face of the city’s growing property tax controversy.
On Tuesday, Acme owner Tom Morales went before the Metropolitan Board of Equalization to appeal a property tax bill he says could ultimately put him out of business.
Acme’s annual property tax jumped by roughly $460,000 in a single year, bringing the bill to about $589,000.
Morales says the increase is staggering for a business whose rent and net profits combined are less than the new tax bill.
