Acedia Kerosene is a saturation plugin that tries to do the work of several. Four drive modes, a reactive noise engine, a built-in compressor and filters in one box. Here is what it actually sounds like.
We ran Kerosene across a drum kit stem, a bass track and a full mix to find out where this saturation plugin earns its place in a session and where it gets in the way. The four drive modes cover soft clip, hard clip, tube and tape, each with its own harmonic fingerprint as you push the drive. A Colour control sits before the drive stage, so dark settings cook the low end while bright settings push more high end into the curve. The noise engine feeds grit into the signal before saturation, with Duck and Follow modes that respond to the music.
After that, you get compression, frequency-shaping filters and a real-time visualiser that shows the curve as you work.
