Back in the ghost town of New Hope, we usually find ourselves looking for the older traces of the community that once stood here. Old graves, old roads, old stories, and the reminders of a place that slowly disappeared from the map.
But this time, we are looking at a later chapter.
Hidden back in the woods is an abandoned cinderblock cabin, likely used as a seasonal camp by outdoorsmen after the old New Hope community had faded away, but before this land became the state property it is today. It is much newer than the places I normally document, but it still tells part of the story of this land.
After New Hope was gone, the land did not simply stop being used. People still came through here. They camped, worked, passed time, and left behind their own traces. This little cabin is one of those traces.
It may not be a grand old house or a 19th century ruin, but it gives us a look at what happened after the ghost town years. It is part of the layered history of New Hope, and another reminder that history does not always end when a community disappears.
Preservation through documentation. That is why we do this work. We are out here recording these places, from the oldest graves to the forgotten structures in the woods, before they are gone for good.
