Cecil and I traveled to a forgotten African American cemetery in Sumter County, Georgia. Once part of an old church, the church building is long gone, but the graves remain—hidden beneath a thick cover of deep green grass. Unlike many abandoned cemeteries we explore, this place is peaceful, untouched, and beautiful, surrounded by vast farm fields stretching to the horizon.
