The summer solstice approaches! This is a chant I created several years ago to celebrate this special moment in the turning of the season- the height of the sun’s power and the beginning of her gradual weakening to make way for the dominance of night. As this song affirms, we need to dare to have gratitude for the warmth, the growth, the light as well as for waning, death and decline. I like to use this holiday to explore not what we wish to grow in strength, but rather what we wish to diminish or even destroy. What forces, emotions, energies in our material or inner worlds need taming, breaking down, dismemberment? This work is just as important as what we build up or grow, the latter of which I find tends to get more attention in modern neopagan practice.
