The Mortising Jig allows you to cut mortises with your plunge router with any metric or standard bit and up to 3-1/2” (88mm) in length.
When cutting mortises with a plunge router, you need a jig that limits the travel of the router while keeping it perpendicular to your stock and traveling in a straight line. Many shop-made mortising jigs check most of those boxes but are often custom-built for the project at hand. Woodpeckers mortising jig checks all the boxes (and a few more) and it’s built for a wide range of projects. You can cut mortises on the edge or end of your workpiece, whether it’s square or round. The mortise can be centered or off-center; mitered, or not.
Using the Mortising Jig couldn’t be easier. Simply lay out the centerlines of your mortise. Clamp your workpiece to the vertical table and align the horizontal table to the mortise centerline. Set your stops with your choice of inch or metric scales and you’re ready. Just install the included guide bushing in your router base, install the correct size router bit and start mortising. You can use any plunge bit up to 1/2” diameter and you have a maximum mortise length of 3-1/2” (88mm).
