Today I'm checking out the gameplay demo for Liminal Agent, a new indie psychological horror game that perfectly captures the feeling of a true liminal space backrooms nightmare. Unlike a lot of survival horror titles, there are no actual entities chasing you here. Instead, this playthrough focuses entirely on exploration and pure atmospheric dread.

The game starts you off in an abandoned subway station before using a mechanism to teleport you directly into the unsettling, unnatural silence of Level 0. From there, the level design does all the heavy lifting. The developers built these massive interconnected liminal spaces—from empty shopping malls to endless tunnels and retro locations—specifically to make you feel isolated, lost, and like you are constantly being watched.

It is a slow burn that relies on deep paranoia rather than cheap jumpscares to build tension. If you enjoy atmospheric indie horror, walking simulators, or just wandering through impossible, surreal spaces, this one nails the aesthetic.
