Saint Paul, also known as Saint-Paul-des-Metis, is a town of just under 6000 people in east-central Alberta. In 1967 the town opened the first official UFO landing pad in the world as part of Canada's centennial anniversary celebrations. It was created with a healthy dose of humor and fun, but there was also a very strong general interest in space travel and possible extraterrestrial life at the time. The mission statements surrounding the landing pad state that the structure was developed in the spirit of unity and cooperation - both with possible alien life and with each other on planet earth. There is a tourist information center attached to the landing pad that is open from May long weekend until September long weekend. Definitely a unique experience and worth a visit! UFO pizza was great as well, and if you're in town and you're into aliens then I'd recommend you pop in for a quick bite. I'd like to explore the town more down the road.
