In this video I talk about the cases of 2 kids that went missing in the Canadian prairie province of Manitoba in August of 1934. There is not enough information available to say if the stories are related, but they occurred 2 days apart and they involved kids that went missing from a rural setting and were later found miles away.
On August 5 of 1934 3 year old Florence Spence was living with her family in central Manitoba. After her parents left their kids at their cabin to buy goods at a local mine, Florence disappeared. A large search ensued, with the RCMP directing a search team of 100 people. A man named Roy Brown even flew his private airplane over the area to assist in the search. After 5 days of searching, a man names M. Blair claimed that he had dream telling him where Florence would be found and found her in the bush. Florence was semi-conscious when she was found, and asked for water immediately. She was taken to a physician at a local mine and found to be in good overall condition. Local residents were shocked that the 3 year old had survived for 5 days alone in the wild, and noted that they had heard wolves and coyotes in the area during the search.
On August 7 of 1934, while the search for Florence Spence was happening not far away, 7 year old Frank Goy went missing from his home in Dallas, Manitoba. His father, Peter, searched the area alone for hours before calling the RCMP and enlisting the help of neighbors.
Several days later, Frank was located 13 miles from his home. Searchers noted that this was a surprising distance, especially given the fact that the area was mostly treacherous swampland. Frank was exhausted and hungry when found, and after being examined at a local clinic he was found to be in good condition.
Standard search and rescue guidelines say that 7-9 year olds that go missing on flat terrain are found within 5 miles of where they went missing 95% of the time.
I have been studying missing persons cases for years, and there are a bunch of these odd pairs of cases that pop up. Instances where 2 people go missing from the same area within a relatively close timeframe.
There is not enough information available to suggest if the cases of Florence Spence and Frank Goy are related, I just always found these stories to be interesting
