Have you ever noticed that
It’s not what we say that matters most?
The power is in what you don’t say,
And the race isn’t close.

Have you ever noticed folks sometimes speak
Right after you are through,
Which means they’ve been planning their next words
Instead of listening to you.

Or what of the guy with all the answers,
Who claims he’s never wrong,
But you couldn’t find his brain,
With golden fondue tongs.

Then there is the person who isn’t qualified
To comment or reflect.
It seems that the less that person knows,
The more he will offer on the subject.

Of course there is the real expert,
Who knows his trade, but little else,
We wish he would stay with his expertise,
And keep the rest to himself.

And what of the explainer,
Who repeats all of his lines,
Surely we will understand his major points,
If they are repeated a hundred times.

But the worst of all is the silent one,
Who holds back the facts he has amassed,
“Why didn’t you mention this before?”
“Because nobody asked.”
