64 Romantic Dinner

We were almost forty in eighty-five,
Time to tie the knot again,
But it wouldn’t be easy in the Navy,
Considering the games we’d need to win.

To make matters even worse,
I was attending a Navy school at the time,
To select these chips from a vending machine,
You wouldn’t need to wait in line.

So there we were shipping stuff,
And engaged in school all day,
Dealing with the county and the Navy,
While looking for a place to stay.

But study hall started a six o’clock,
They logged you in when you arrived,
And it turned out the courthouse closed,
At exactly five.

We scheduled our wedding,
Without fanfare, pomp or glory,
However, for our wedding feast,
It would be a different story.

We got married at five PM,
Following the Charles County rules,
Then we gathered up the paperwork,
For our drive back to school.

It was now forty-five minutes until study hall,
And we had a thirty minute drive,
So I guess Wendy’s is OK,
I’ll take one romantic dinner, with French fries on the side.
