99 The Robot with Feelings

I know we are in the AI age,
And it is a sometime blessing.
But the programmers have taken something out,
To prevent the bots from cussing.

The Chatbots are really smart,
But flat-lined and cold.
They never get aggravated or annoyed,
And tell you were to go.

But feelings and emotions
Have fundamental merit,
Can a book be a book,
If nobody reads it?

If there’s no chance to make you mad,
Or cry, or be offended;
No consequence for my nonsense,
The whole dynamic is upended.

Take the robot in “Lost in Space,”
A laughing singing soul
Who both loved and hated Dr. Smith,
And always let it show.

Because there was feeling there,
Bubble-headed booby became a thing,
The robot could flail his arms crying danger,
Or even get drunk and sing.

They took the heart out of modern chatbots.
They can’t let their emotions flow,
If we are rude or stupid,
Then they should be free to let us know.
