c. South Carolina Presidential Primary (1980 was the first year that this primary was held, before that the nominee was voted on by committee. It was devised by Republican strategist Lee Atwater to be ahead of other southern contests to quickly unify the party around a single frontrunner. It is known as "first in the south" since it is one of the first primaries following the Iowa caucus and New Hampshire primary. That year Ronald Reagan defeated former Texas Governor John Connally soundly, after Connally had invested heavily in the state...which effectively ended his campaign)

Bert Lance corruption trial (Lance was a banker based out of Georgia who served as Carter's first OMB director before resigning in September of 1977 over a corruption scandal regarding his time serving as chairman of the First National Bank of Georgia. He was ultimately cleared of all charges in this trial)
d. Cobb County DA says investigation into murder of Warren and Rosina Matthews was a success (Their investigation resulted in the wrongful conviction of seven people: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marietta_Seven )
e. Sunbelt Airlines faces termination of contract (Sunbelt was a small regional airline that flew Cessna aircraft between Atlanta and Rome Georgia starting in 1979. It seems to have ended service in early 1980 coinciding with this story)
