Sorry about the video quality again. I got a decent camera, but for numerous reasons I could only do a low resolution take (missing Firewire cable, limited upload bandwidth, etc)

Anyway. This version uses the YM2151 FM Synth IC used in a few of my other videos. I think it sounds much better than my attempt at programming a SID. The YM2151 does a lot of stuff by itself so the 8080, which severely lacks processing power, doesn't have to do much.

I've also made a simple wavetable drum kit which is just a counter, a ROM and an R-2R resistor network. The 8080 triggers which of the two 4kB samples are played, in an 8kB ROM space. The sample rate is controlled by an Intel 8254 timer.

The closeups of the computer and terminals should make it clearer what's going on, unlike the first take.
