6.0 Powerstroke - Valve Cover Oil Leak - How To Heli-Coil
Here is a quick video showing you how to fix your leaking valve covers on your 6.0 powerstroke. Who ever had worked on my truck before me had stripped out 5 or so bolts on my upper rocker boxes so that the 6.0 powerstroke valve covers could not seal and I would leak all kinds of oil down the sides of my 6.0 valve cover. This is hard to do with the heads in the cab because the back bolts are a pain. To fix this we have to heli-coil the bolt hole. To heli-coil a bolt hole you use the drill bit and tap supplied with the kit. First you drill the hole out, then you tap the hole, then you put the heli-coil into the hole and use the tool supplied to screw it in. Then bam your done you have threads again. I opted to heli-coil all of my back bolt holes so just in case something happens I don't have to deal with it later. Pro tip though would be to heli-coil a piece of scrap aluminum first.
